(Click on any image below for an enlarged view.)

Topics Covered:

  • Setting the main light
  • Setting the reflector fill
  • Setting the hair light

Equipment Used:

    Lighting Equipment

    • Photoflex Halfdome2 Kit
    • Photoflex LitePanel
    • Photoflex OctoDome Kit

    Figure 1

An OctoDome nxt Kit, featuring our 3' OctoDome nxt soft box and Starlite light head, was set to the right of our model about three feet away. This was our main light.

    Figure 2

This is the result shot using only the main light. The light is soft and wraps around the model nicely, creating soft shadows.

We wanted to fill in the dark side with more light.

    Figure 3

We set up a reflector fill by using a LitePanel frame with our soft gold fabric. This will bounce a warmer tone light into the shadow side of the model.

The LitePanel frame was supported by a LitePanel crossbar and LiteStand 2218.

    Figure 4

The result shows a better lighting ratio than the first shot. The hair on the left now has better highlights.

    Figure 5

A Small HalfDome Kit was used as a hairlight to give our portrait a more finished look.

The HalfDome Kit comes with a Boom and Stand to easily provide a bright, easy-to-use overhead light set up.

    Figure 6

The final result shows a richer, more complete look. The highlight on the hair really adds brightness and definition to the portrait.
