Topics Covered:

  • Setting the main light
  • Setting the rim light

Equipment Used:

    Figure 1

The figurine was placed toward the front of the shooting table so that the camera could get in close.

The main light was set up on the left at a 45º angle and tilted a bit down to illuminate the figurine.

    Figure 2

This shows the same light set up from an angle behind the camera.

    Figure 3

The second light was set up on the right of the figurine.

Notice that this light is higher and more to the rear than the main light. This light will act as a rim light providing highlights to the outer edges on the right side.

    Figure 4

This angle shows the rim light as seen from behind the camera.

    Figure 5

This shot shows which highlights were produced by each light. Notice that the main light produced the broader areas of highlight and the rim light added smaller highlight areas.

    Figure 6

Our final image is nicely lit and has good definition.
