This lesson shows how to set up a simple studio portrait lighting set up using strobe lights.
The main light is a MultiDome which has gold and silver panel inserts for modifying the color of light output. We also used a WhiteDome, an omnidirectional softbox, to light the hair and background with only one light.

Topics Covered:
- Setting up the main light
- Adding a reflector fill
- Adding a hair/background combination light
Equipment Used:
 Figure 1 |
A Medium MultiDome served as the main light. The gold panels were inserted in the soft box to produce a warm light. |
 Figure 2 |
This is the result shot using only the MultiDome as the light source. |
 Figure 3 |
To fill in the shadows on the left side, we added an Oval LiteDisc with the soft gold side reflecting light from the main light. |
 Figure 4 |
The shadows have been filled in using the Oval LiteDisc. The soft gold of the LiteDisc complements the warm light of the MultiDome with gold panels inserted. |
 Figure 5 |
We added a Medium WhiteDome (with a strobe attached) on a Boom to serve as a hair and background light. This shot shows the WhiteDome with 2 of the removable black panels attached to block light directed toward the camera. |
 Figure 6 |
This side-view shot shows the WhiteDome on its Boom. The white sides of the box illuminate the background while the face of the soft box acts as a hairlight. |
 Figure 7 |
Notice how the WhiteDome provided enough light for the background and added a nice separation light to our model’s hair. |
 Figure 8 |
We added the grids (available separately) to the Medium MultiDome to give us more directional control of our main light. |
